Healthy Treats – Coconut Oil “Fat Bombs”

Homemade candies with coconut.

One of the biggest problems with clean eating is that it can get a bit boring sometimes and you crave something sweet. If this sounds like you then don’t worry you are like 99% of clean eaters out there! By clean eating I mean natural whole foods which are unprocessed and don’t contain any added sugars or crappy sweeteners!

I’m pretty boring when it comes to foods but I do try and scour the internet to find as many foods which taste nice and are full of goodness. There are many healthy snacks out there but people tend to go overboard and eat too many of these – i’e Quest bars don’t last too long in my house! But if you can keep your snacking on these healthy snacks under control and don’t substitute meals for these foods then you are on to a winner.

I recently came across a great recipe on a fat loss blog called  ‘Coconut Oil ‘Fat Bombs’. Sometimes I am sceptical of these healthy treats but this one is really good and can help combat sugar cravings.

Makes about 18

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup softened cold pressed virgin coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1-2 Tablespoons equivalent to sugar of your sweetener of choice. I would recommend you use xylitol or stevia.
  • 1/2 teaspoon celtic sea salt
  • 2-4 Tablespoons organic unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 T organic almond butter or other nut butter (optional)
  • optional – unsweetened dessicated coconut (for sprinkling)

Preparation:

Mix all ingredients together in a bowl or food processor until mixture is smooth. Drop by the tablespoon onto waxed or parchment paper, or into the dessicated coconut. Put in fridge until they are solid, then store in a covered container in the fridge.

Again I want you to understand that you need to be careful about over eating on healthy snacks – too much of anything is not good as they say! Try keep things like these for the odd healthy treat or for when cravings strike!
