Sounds like the headline of some new age age freak but its true chemicals in our water can trigger weight gain and fertility problems. Medicines, antibiotics and many other chemicals in our water could be doing us serious damage.
You may have seen the programme on rte1 the other night called ‘eco eye’ which showed us just how bad our water really is. Thanks to the amount of possible pollutants that are making their way into our waters we are drinking and washing in water laden chemicals. In turn this causes our bodies to be flooded with toxins. Toxins in our bodies are extremely harmful and mess with your hormones. Our waters are littered with pharmaceuticals and pollutants which are not being blocked from entering our waters.
You have probably heard about contaminated water – Cryptosporidium and E coli have caused serious problems in water in certain parts of Ireland last year meaning people had to boil their water. There are also 60,000 dissolvable chemicals that can get into our water supply.
How it works is like this – Our waste water flows through mechanical treatment plants that are not designed to remove these chemicals and spent medicines. Add in the fluroide which our government allows and it soon becomes clear that we are drinking a lot of bad stuff.
Other chemical derivatives that get into our water include oestrogen compounds. These can come from pesticides and herbicides that wash off from soil into our rivers. An excessive amount of oestrogen in the body not only drives certain diseases such as beast cancer but also affects the way we accumulate fat – women especially tend to see it more from the bum down.
One of the best ways to counteract this is with a water filtration system – I currently use a Britta filter but will be having a reverse osmosis water filtration system fitted over the next few weeks. The Britta filter works well for limescale but i am not too sure how good it is for these chemicals.
IS BOTTLE BEST?
Some would argue that we should just drink bottled water. But the plasticising chemicals and other things make this a cause for concern too. If you want to bottle your tap water once you have filtered it, an alternative is to buy a BPA-free stainless steel bottle that you can fill up and keep in the fridge. Its amazing to think we have to go to these measures because our country has failed to look after something that is essential for life and something we are soon going to be charged for.
Charging us to drink this should be seen as a criminal offence!!! We are constantly looking for cures for illness’s and diseases but prevention should be the priority. And this is one of the simplest solutions to many health issues. Remember that water is only as good as the route of its delivery.
So my advice to you would be to seek getting a reverse osmosis water filtration system fitted. You will have piece of mind and better health next time you fill up a glass of water from your tap!
