It’s 2014 and almost everyone I know is running around like crazy with no time to themselves. Most are working full time and have loads of other things outside of work that fill up their days. These are the typical people who usually moan that eating clean just takes too much time. But using this excuse could be one of the worst things you can do and planning and prepping can actually make you MORE efficient/productive during the week and give you MORE time!
At ProFitness Ireland we encourage everyone to plan and prepare their foods in advance, both of these are keys to success in living this lifestyle and for fat loss. It may seem daunting at first to set a side 30 – 40 mins a few days per week to prepare your meals but it will 100% give you more time to do all the other things you want to do. Most importantly though you won’t end up eating crap. Remember the 7 P’s.
Prior Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance
Some people do like to prep a few days at a time but me personally I like my food that little bit fresher and usually cook just for one day when i’m batch cooking! Batch cooking your meals is pretty simple. It all begins with the planning phase. Sunday is best for planning your foods for the week. Sunday might take you longer as this is the day when you are going to write out your full week of meals. After you have written out your meals for the week your next step should be to make a grocery shopping list so you know exactly what you need and do not have to run to the shop every day.
Only prep your food once a day. After making your meals and cleaning up, do you really want to take everything out again to make your next meal?- unless you just love cooking that much that you want to keep doing it!!! Saving time doing all this is great for giving you more ME time to do the things you want to do!
To batch cook your meals I recommend using a good steamer which can steam many foods at once. I steam chicken/turkey/beef burgers for 30-35 mins, Fish for 15-20 mins and veg for 5-8 mins max. If you are frying certain foods make sure to use Organic Coconut Oil. You then need to get yourself a good tupperware set of lunch boxes to store your meals – doing this alone will dramatically increase results and gone will be days of picking at rubbish because your “starving” and “have nothing to eat”.
Next step after you have mastered your planning and prepping phase is to take photos of your meals – this is one of the stipulations we have with our clients who want the best results. Why? Because when we can visually see what they have eaten then it’s easier for us to help them if they hit a sticking point and need some extra help. Watch the video below to see exactly how to do it.
