ProFitness Level 3 PICP

Level 3 PICP was an amazing learning experience for us. We have invested a massive amount into our education and booking this trip was a big expense but one that proved it was worth every cent. We arrived in Rhode Island on the Saturday night at our hotel which was in a quiet area of Warwick. On checking in we bumped into a few other guys including Kassem Hanson who we went out to eat with that night.
One thing which really impressed me was the course started on a Sunday which is unheard of this side of the world. We are basically Monday to Friday guys!! I think starting on Sunday gets people out of comfort zone which is essential on a course like this.
.
We arrived at the Poliquin Strength Institue about 9.30am and there were a few others waiting patiently! We instantly recognised Marty Willams and Kelly James Martinovich as we had seen so much about them and their Gym the Shredded Strength Institute on the internet. We got talking to most people before the course began and felt comfortable going in to begin the class. I dont know what it is about level 3 you can just sense the difference, the atmosphere is better as is the standard of trainer and You really sense your in the presence of the worlds best trainers. Most were big strong guys in excellent condition who were at the top of the tree in their countries.
.
The class began with a talk on brain health by Charles which was brilliant and we picked up some valuable pieces of information from this often neglected part of our health. Charles was then off to Sweden to teach so our teachers for the week were John, Andre, Ryan, Clarke and Mary Pier. After introducing ourselves we covered Modified Strongman Training and how to apply it for athletes and average Joe looking to lose Bodyfat. We went outside after lunch to learn some basic strength/power tests followed by a Modified Strongman session. Myself John and Conor (the scouser!) worked together. This was a tough, tough session of which the truck pull was probably the hardest!! The atmosphere was great and everyone pushed each other to their limits!
.
Day 2 and 3 was all about injury prevention, prehab and rehab exercises. We learned so much on this and we are no armed with lots of new information and tests such as the overhead squat to use on our clients. We had to test each other and only Chin from Singapore tested 10/10 which was incredible!
.
Day 4 and 5: The best days of the course ; Energy systems training. There are so many diffrent systems that prescribing a training session for each one is an art in itself. Its easy to make a fast guy slow but its not as easy to make a slow guy fast – meaning if you train a fast athlete wrong you can ***k up their speed! We learned how to properly design training programmes for certain sports in terms of how to train each system and also found out why sports like soccer are years behind(in general) in terms of correct training for their players. The tendency in professional soccer is to concentrate on aerobic fitness. We also used some speed devices in the Gym which were great for varying training sessions. On thursday we did a session in the Gym with Clarke and we got so many ideas from this that we are now going to start an early morning fat loss class based in the Gym from January.
.
The last day was a half day and recapped the week and a presentation on supplements. We are both BioSignature Practitioners but we found the talk to be excellent and we have added some new supplements to our arsenal!!! The course was amazing and we met many great people. What we found was they are all so successfull from the results they produce and not just from a mass marketing campaign or bull******g people which so many trainers in Ireland opt for. The cream always rise to the top as they say! We are the only ones from the course who own a public Gym and from listening to the guys we may be selling ourselves short in terms of the service we offer to our members for what they actually pay for but the retention rate we have at ProFitness Gym is massive, (somewhere between 83-87%) and we feel if we become known for producing consistent results then success will follow. We also learned lots from the guys on our course about developing our Gym and we hope to have lots of new and exiting ideas on the way!
