If you don’t have a sweet tooth you are one of few people!! The experts even say if you have a sweet tooth all your life it can be down to your genes! But using that old chestnut with us wont work and I will give you some foods today to counteract the sweet tooth! There’s even a big disconnect between our feelings of “hunger” and what is actually nothing more than a craving. (try waiting for 15-20 minutes before satisfying it. If it’s a craving it’ll probably go away by then.)
Dr Jonny Bowden says this “The foods we crave are almost always the ones that make us sick, fat tired and depressed, and there’s a very good reason for this. Manufacturers “engineer” processed foods with just the right overlays of fat, sugar and salt as to make them high-nigh irresistible. (It’s no accident that the most successful food marketing slogan in history was “Betcha can’t eat just one.” They weren’t kidding!) And these foods are- you guessed it- almost always high carbohydrate foods”
Our detox programmes aim to cut out ALL sugar ( we do both 7 and 14 day detox programmes). After this period what we have found is that our clients begin to appreciate naturally sweet foods such as certain fruits, nuts and dark chocolate. We do give some of our clients chocolate very regularly but only when they can control portion size (most people are like me and would eat the whole bar!!).
I have been lucky enough to read a lot of excellent books from health experts and have picked up some useful tips for those of you with a sweet tooth. So when those sweet tooth cravings begin to happen in your head(and belly!!) you could do one of the following :
- Mix some Sun Warrior Chocolate plant based protein(very light on stomach) with some coconut milk and a little cinnamon which is excellent for balancing blood sugar
- Spread some organic almond butter onto organic apple slices and sprinkle with cinnamon
- Vanilla is great for raising serotonin so adding this to your coffee or other things you use coconut milk with
- Robert Atkins, MD, has suggested the following for a sugar urge: Take 1 to 2 g of L-glutamine, preferably with some coconut oil and just a touch of stevia. “The immediate desire to eat something sweet will pass,” says Atkins
- Nutmeg and Cloves help satisfy a sweet tooth. These also go great with Orange food groups like carrots, sweet potato and butternut squash.
- There is an excellent supplement called Uber-Inositol which will also help greatly!
