What do you think when you read the question above? Maybe you see them both as the same or maybe you know the difference between the two. My aim today is to explain what each means and why it is relevant to you.
One freezing cold January amidst the snow (during a training session which wasnt going too well) the reserve team manager at Sheffield United hauled us in and asked the following question – Would you like to be a first team player playing in the premiership or do you want to be a first team player playing in the premiership? He went on to explain what he meant. There is a distinctive difference between the two. He seen us as a group of players who would LIKE to be first team players, that we liked the idea of playing in front of big crowds, earning good money and driving nice cars but that he didnt feel we WANTED all of this enough. He talked of life in ghettos throughout the world where the goal of the people is to “get out” – often these people are the best sports people in the world because they WANT it more than most. They have to overcome adversity to reach the goal that they WANTED.Prime example is the Williams sisters.
One of the first questions we ask any of or Personal Training clients is – Would you like results ? The usual reply is yes of course id like to get results, like some of your other clients. Then we say ok do you WANT results, the reply is usualy yes (you have just asked me that!). So we go on to explain that if you really WANT results you will get them. Achieving great fat loss results is relatively easy if you WANT it enough. The clients we have achieved the best results with are the ones who WANTED them the most. We know many trainers who sack clients for not getting results but we dont like this approach and we feel the trainer has maybe not motivated the client enough to change.
Our bodies are designed to be lean not to be fat. If you WANT to have a lean body you can and will have one, BUT you need to be prepared to make changes. If you are not prepared to make changes then you are falling back in to the category of LIKING results and not WANTING them.Your mindset needs to be right if you are going to see a new you in 2012. January can be a strange month because we all have these great intentions but rarely see them through. Will this year be different for you? Below is a compilation of pictures of some of the things that happened at ProFitness Gym in 2011 (body transformations, local rugby star and gym member signing for Leinster, 2 world champion Power Lifters, training with NFL players) – not bad for our first full year in business!
So now we when we ask you would you LIKE a body transformation or do you WANT a body transformation what will your reply be ??? Now lets make 2012 a year to remember!!
